Ambassador of South Korea to Egypt Yoon Yeocheol announced on Sunday that his country was keen to enhance bilateral relations with Egypt in the tourism sector and is looking forward to running direct a South Korean-Egyptian airline which would help tourists visit some of Egypt’s scenic locations, namely South Sinai.
While meeting with Governor of South Sinai Khalid Fouda, Yeocheol added that South Korea has been studying the transfer of tourists from Cairo into Sharm el-Sheikh and the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Egyptian and Korean governments to encourage tourism in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Meanwhile, Fouda said that South Korean mass media would be invited to visit Sharm el-Sheikh for three days and report on the safety of the South Sinai governorate.
Egypt and South Korea resumed direct flights between the two countries in January 2019 after the Korean Air Company launched five flights to Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Hurghada in January and February, according to Cairo’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Hazem Fahmy.
The Korean government however continued to warn tourists from visiting Taba and Sinai, following the explosion of a Korean tourist bus in Taba in 2013.
