Five hundred sixty-four stranded Palestinians from Egypt and other foreign countries have crossed through the Rafah border crossing to Gaza.
An informed source from the crossing said it was opened for exceptional reasons from Tuesday to Wednesday after Egyptian authorities approved the passage for stranded people and humanitarian aid.
The crossing has been closed since the deadly attack against security troops in October in the Karm al-Qawadees ambush. However, it’s being opened occasionally to allow for humanitarian aid.
In related news, 1,087 tons of construction material was allowed into Gaza via the crossing to fulfill requirements for reconstruction projects, the source said. The materials were allowed in after coordination with Palestinian authorities.
Both Egypt and Qatar had earlier agreed that Egypt will take charge of providing Gaza with building materials, which will enter Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.
