Students plan march to mark National Student Day

Several student movements announced they will march from Cairo University to Abbas Bridge in Giza on Thursday to commemorate National Student Day, according to a statement Wednesday.

They are also demanding justice for those killed during the 25 January revolution, an end to military tribunals for civilians, the release of political detainees and free education.

The day marks national protests against the British after soldiers killed scores of students demonstrating on the Abbas Bridge by opening the moveable bridge and letting protesters drown on 9 February, 1946.

The movements said the British and former government are not the only ones responsible for killing students, adding that they are still victims of oppression and tyranny under the current administration.
