Suez seaport workers close port gates in protest

Workers of the Ataka seaport overlooking the Suez gulf closed the port’s gates on Wednesday in protest of lack of adequate protection against outlaws.

The workers said outlaws had been blackmailing and imposing royalties on sailboat owners, causing them to move their activities to Tor port in South Sinai.

Port chief Wagdy al-Noweishy stressed the necessity of protecting the port against thuggery and providing security to the sailboats that discharge fish there. He added that workers are the only ones harmed.
