Army and police forces on Monday afternoon opened Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo for traffic. The square was closed on Sunday in anticipation of demonstrations called by the Brotherhood entitled “100 days since the dispersing of Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda sit-ins.”
Barriers and barbed wire were removed from all entrances and exits of the square, but military and central security forces remained stationed around the Egyptian Museum and the US Embassy.
“The opening of the square eases traffic jams downtown and on the Corniche,” said Fathi Emara, head of the Cairo Traffic Department.
Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda squares were also closed on Sunday and opened on Monday.
