The head of Egypt's ruling military council on Tuesday met with a US general to discuss political developments in the region, state-run news agency MENA reported.
Egypt's Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi and General James Mattis, commander of US Central Command, also discussed ways to enhance military cooperation between the US and Egypt.
During the meeting, Mattis stressed his country's willingness to support democratic transition in Egypt.
Mattis also met with Sami Annan, vice president of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF).
The two sides also discussed issues related to joint training programs and how to preserve communication channels for securing common interests and mutual commitments.
Other senior SCAF leaders and US Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson also attended the meeting.
