Terminal 2 at Hurghada Airport to be reopened in February

Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Younis al-Masry issued orders to quickly complete work on development for Terminal 2 of the Hurghada International Airport, in order to have it ready to receive departure and arrival for international tourist trips on the first of February after a period of 14 months halted work.

Masry’s directives came during his recent visit to Hurghada International Airport. Sources said that the minister is expected to invite President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to attend the reopening of the terminal after development is completed.

In November 2017, Hurghada Airport management transferred all international departures and arrivals from Terminal 2 to the new Terminal 1 during the development and renovation phase.

Sources said that the stage for conducting experiments on the operation of the new security system, in coordination with the Egyptian Company for Airports, has ended  including the work carried out in Terminal 2, ensuring it’s proper operation.

The sources explained that the developmental work included upgrading building efficiency and equipping it with modern security devices according to international standards demanded by the foreign inspection committees that visited the airport.

The Arab Contractors Company is undertaking a comprehensive development process for the Airport which includes protecting the departures and arrivals halls from the dangers of rainfall, installing modern security equipment, and developing the sorting area for departing bags.
