Thousands of supporters of toppled President Mohamed Morsy staged a march after Friday prayers from al-Estiqama Mosque in Giza to al-Nahda Square.
Protesters chanted pro-Morsy and anti-military slogans like "We love you Morsy," and "Down with military rule."
Professor at Al-Azhar University Hussein Abdel Gawad who gave a sermon Friday at Estiqama Mosque called on the armed forces to maintain their stature in the hearts of Egyptians and prevent bloodshed.
He called on the police to protect citizens and on the media to maintain accuracy and honesty.
Supporters of Morsy announced mass protests in Cairo and other governorates Friday dubbed "Egypt against the coup" to demand Morsy's return to rule.
