Saudi movie ‘Wadjda’ submitted to participate in Oscars

The Saudi movie “Wadjda” has been submitted by the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts to participate in the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
 
The is the first time ever Saudi Arabia has decided to participate in the Oscars.
 
The Saudi society responsible for the nomination explained that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has expressed its consent to the nomination within the list of submission.
 
Wadjda was released in Europe three months ago, and is now being showed in some American theatres after it received several international awards.
 
The movie is directed by renowned Saudi director Haifaa al-Mansour. It tells the story of a 10-year-old girl called Wadjda who tries to get on a bicycle, then develop plans to get enough money to buy it.
