Luxor witnessed heavy rain and hail at dawn on Friday amid the happiness of residents following a heatwave nationwide especially in Upper Egypt.
For the first time in decades, rains and hail fell in Luxor during summer, causing the a stop in traffic and power outage in a number of villages.
General manager of Luxor antiquities Mostafa al-Waziry said tours are continuing as normal and were not affected by the incident.
Rainwater drains are operating and the Civil Defense Directorate is on alert, Luxor local authorities announced.
In Aswan, many areas saw thunderstorms yesterday with sporadic heavy and mild rains. The local authorities are on alert and raised the state of emergency upon the instructions of the governor.
