Quarantine authority amend cotton import controls

The National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Authority introduced amendments to the regulations and requirements of cotton imports from abroad.

The amendments require the importer to obtain an import permission from the authority one month ahead of the import date and to specify the quantity to be imported and country of origin. The importer must also specify in the formal request the destination port that would receive the shipment to avoid overcrowding.

Chairman of the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine Saad Moussa said that the amendments to controls would allow the authority an opportunity to check incoming shipments from abroad. He added that the importer has to obtain a fumigation certificate for the cotton shipment from the country of origin.
