Egypt announced an increase in the volume of its agricultural exports to more than 3.3 million tons from January 1 to May 26.
Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, al-Sayed al-Quseir announced Saturday that the biggest agricultural exports for this period were citrus, potatoes, onions, strawberries, pomegranates, sweet potatoes, beans, beets, guava, peppers, mangoes, garlic, and grapes.
He pointed out that 8,500 tons of peaches and about 6,500 tons of watermelon were exported at the beginning of the season to England, Italy, Russia, Romania, Poland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Libya and Iraq.
Quseir added that the rising demand for importing Egyptian watermelon and peaches confirms their quality, especially from countries that set very difficult specifications and requirements for importing foodstuffs.
The minister emphasized that this reflects well on the quality of Egyptian agricultural products and the safety of the measures taken in tracking and controlling them.
Egyptian agricultural products are currently invading the markets of more than 160 countries, and they have so far achieved an increase of about 250,000 tons over the same period last year.
He praised efforts made by Egyptian agricultural quarantine workers who work around the clock to facilitate export procedures in support of the national economy.
