
CAIRO, Feb 15 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reiterated on Sunday Egypt’s support for the African Union’s membership in the G20, describing it as an important opportunity to amplify Africa’s voice, articulate the continent’s priorities and address the challenges facing African countries, especially the debt crisis and the need to reform international financial institutions in a manner that serves developing nations and supports sustainable development efforts.
The top diplomat made the remarks during a meeting with Francisca Belobe, African Union Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals.
Abdelatty welcomed the agreement on the “Common African Position on Debt,” describing it as a significant step reflecting growing continental coordination in addressing the debt crisis and its economic and social repercussions.
He underscored the pivotal role of the Commission in enhancing Africa’s economic policies and promoting continental integration, expressing Egypt’s aspiration to further strengthen coordination with the African Union Commission on economic and financial issues, especially in supporting and empowering young entrepreneurs and promoting sustainable economic initiatives across the continent, in cooperation with AU institutions and African financial bodies.
Belobe expressed appreciation for Egypt’s active role in supporting development and economic integration efforts in Africa, voicing her eagerness to enhance cooperation with Egypt in the coming period in a manner that advances the objectives of the African Union and Agenda 2063. (MENA)
