Trump on Iran: “We don’t need boots on the ground now”

By Michael Williams

President Donald Trump says the US does not “need” its forces to operate on the ground within Iran because of the success of its monthslong bombing campaigns in the country.

“We don’t need boots on the ground now,” the president said in a podcast interview with the New York Post that was published this morning. “Well we did it, you know, we wiped out much of their military with just bombing. We didn’t put anybody on the ground.

“You don’t want to do that if you can avoid it,” the president added.

He said he’s reached a dilemma to bring an end to the war: “Do we sign a deal or do we do it the other way?”

“And the other way is not nice,” he said, adding, however that it would achieve “certainty.” Trump said he would rather do it the “nice way.”
