Egypt, Norway review sustainable development plans, national initiatives

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala al-Saeed met Friday with Norwegian Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development Sigbjørn Gjelsvik.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2023), hosted by New York under the theme “Accelerating the Recovery from Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels”.

The two ministers discussed Egypt’s long, medium, and short-term sustainable development goals, as well as its national initiatives, especially the “Decent Life” presidential initiative.

The Egyptian government launched Egypt’s 2030 Vision in line with worldwide sustainable development goals, Saeed said.

Egypt presented three reports to the United Nations for the Voluntary National Review, demonstrating the extent to which the country has met the sustainable development goals, she added.

The Minister of Planning emphasized the importance of financing to achieve sustainable development goals.

Financing for development was mentioned as one of the main challenges to achieving the 2030 Agenda in the voluntary national report 2018 and 2021, the minister further said.
