Egypt’s army thwarts drug smuggling attempt across the western border

The Border Guard, in cooperation with the Western Military Region forces, foiled an attempt at smuggling one ton of cannabis and one million tablets of narcotic drugs into Egypt across western borders.

Egypt’s Armed Forces spokesman Tamer al-Refeai said that the forces seized two four-wheel vehicles and found the drugs inside, alongside three automatic guns, a sniper rifle, five ammunition magazines, 115 bullets of different types, and a satellite telephone.

Refeai said this was a continuation of the efforts of the Armed Forces to secure Egypt’s borders in all strategic directions.

He added that the Border Guard continues to secure the borders against smuggling, illegal immigration, and terrorists.
