Erian: We will not allow the return of the military

Essam al-Erian, vice president of the Freedom and Justice Party, has said that the rebels of the 25 January revolution will not allow the return of military rule, stressing that Egyptians want to continue down the road of democracy after the election of the first civilian president.

“The remnants of the former regime are trying to abort our glorious revolution and reinstate themselves,” Erian said on Wednesday in Rabea al-Adaweya Square.

For his part, Abdel Rahman al-Barr, the mufti of the Muslim Brotherhood, said that the legitimacy of President Mohamed Morsy must be safeguarded. “We will not go home until we achieve victory. Otherwise, they will have to carry us to our graves,” he said. “We have no place in a land plundered by Mubarak’s men,” he added.

Also, Mostafa al-Ghoneimy, a member of the Guidance Bureau, said a counter-revolution was trying to thwart the will of the people and the 25 January revolution, pointing out that they will not allow any organization, whether internal or external, to take Egypt backwards.

Ezzat al-Salamony of the Gamaa Islamiya said the demonstrators in Tahrir Square want the rule of “military boots,” as he put it.

Meanwhile, military troops have been deployed around Rabea al-Adaweya Square.
