Giza Governor: Imbaba to become ‘new Mohandessin’

Plans are underway to drastically remake the low-income neighborhood of Imbaba, Giza Governor Sayyed Abdel Aziz said during a meeting yesterday with the executive body of Giza Governorate.

The Giza Governor said that Imbaba will be made to look like the high-end shopping district in nearby Mohandessin, specifically the area of Arab League Street.

Abdel Aziz said that the construction of 24 real estate units will be completed by the end of June 2010, with an additional 22 units finished before the end of the year. The construction is part of a plan to develop the Imbaba airport.

The governor said that Imbaba families would be moved into new residential units during the construction phase, but stressed that no Imbaba residents will be relocated outside of the area either during the renovations or afterwards.

He added that the plan aims to provide employment opportunities to Imbaba’s inhabitants as well as build a better future for them and their children.
