Interior minister: New measures to be implemented to face national threats

Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said the ministry is coordinating with the armed forces to devise unprecedented security measures to face calls to "destroy the state."

He said the measures include an intensive deployment of forces and the complete securing of areas and installations vital to national interests.

Security sources said the ministry raised the state of alarm among its troops, canceled vacations and gave strict instructions to respond to attacks on fixed and mobile checkpoints with live ammunition.

Police forces have sustained an increasing number of bloody attacks since Morsy's ouster and have blamed extremist groups and the Muslim Brotherhood for the attacks.
