Minister: Disbanding Brotherhood still being studied

Minister of Social Solidarity Ahmed al-Borai has denied what was attributed to sources within his ministry that a prospective decision to disband the Muslim Brotherhood could be taken within hours.

“We are still examining that dossier,” Borei told the state-run MENA news agency.

The ministry had requested the public prosecutor to provide a copy of the investigations regarding whether political violence occurred at the headquarters of the Brotherhood and its guidance bureau.

The Brotherhood association was legalized on 19 March 2012, and has been facing lawsuits for its disbandment since then.

The sources had said that the disbandment would be justified by the Brotherhood’s involvement in the violence that took place outside its headquarters in Mokattam, which killed eight people and injured 91 others.

Large amounts of weapons, ammunition, and explosives were found inside the building.
