Moussa to visit Sudan to inspect referendum arrangements

Arab League Secretary-general Amr Moussa will head to Sudan on Tuesday to inspect arrangements for the southern secession referendum slated for 9 January, said Hisham Youssef, head of secretary-general’s office, on Sunday..

Moussa will discuss progress made to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement with senior northern and southern officials.

The accord, struck in 2005, ended two decades of civil war.

Moussa's planned visit Khartoum and Juba, the northern and southern capitals, during the second week of December was delayed for procedural reasons.

An Arab League delegation will arrive in Sudan on 4 January to monitor the referendum process.
