Egyptian Ambassador to Algeria Ezz Eddin Fahmy said the Egyptian Embassy in Algeria received threats via email from a group that calls itself the Amazigh Islamic Front.
Fahmy said on Thursday that the group threatened to target members of the Egyptian diplomatic corps in Algeria and Egyptian public figures.
The group also said that the attack on the Egyptian consulate in Benghazi is only the beginning of a series of other attacks that will target Egyptian embassies in countries such as Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania.
Fahmy said the threat was reported to the Algerian Foreign Ministry which tightened security and increased security patrols and barricades around the embassy.
Fahmy thanked Algerian authorities for their efforts to secure the Egyptian embassy in light of calls by Islamist groups in Algeria to protest the developments in Egypt.
On Saturday, a bomb blast ripped through the garden wall of the Egyptian consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, injuring a security guard and five children.
The Egyptian Embassy in Bangladesh closed its consular section until the end of the month on Wednesday after receiving a bomb threat protesting the killing of Muslim Brotherhood supporters in Cairo.
Egypt is currently enduring the bloodiest internal conflict in its modern history. Approximately 900 people, including 100 policemen and soldiers, have been killed since 14 August when security forces broke up protests in support of overthrown President Mohamed Morsy.
