Tourism Ministry on high alert for Umra season

The Tourism Ministry has gone on high alert as the Umra pilgrimage season begins this Ramadan. The ministry will hold intensive meetings throughout the week with representatives from the tourism sector to ensure that all airports and seaports will be working at maximum capacity during this peak travel season.

The meetings will be attended by Abdel Aziz Hassan, the head of the central administration of tourism companies; Mostafa Abdel Latif, the head of the central administration of tourist transport; and Nasser Torkey, the deputy head of the chamber of tourism companies and the head of the religious tourism committee. Other members of the religious tourism committee will also be in attendance.

Tourism officials began work on Friday to facilitate the arrival and departure of Umra pilgrims by sea in the Safaga, Nuweiba and Aqaba ports. Officials have also been working with their counterparts in Saudi Arabia to ensure the safe arrival and entry of pilgrims in the Jeddah and Yanbu ports.

Tourism Minister Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour has tasked the officials with responding to any problems encountered by the Umra pilgrims over the coming month.
