US President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that no tolls or fees will be imposed on transit through the Strait of Hormuz during or after the temporary 60-day ceasefire with Iran, unless the US introduces them in the event that peace talks collapse.
In a post on his “Truth Social” platform, Trump wrote: “No tolls will be charged for crossing the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days during the ceasefire period, and no tolls will be charged after this period expires, unless imposed by and for the benefit of the United States of America, in the event that the deal is not finalized. This would be in exchange for services provided as a sponsor for Middle Eastern nations to offset past, present, and future costs.”
Earlier, Commander Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), stated that Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz and that maritime traffic continues to flow smoothly. Hawkins explained that US forces are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the uninterrupted continuity of navigation through the strait.
Furthermore, CENTCOM announced in a post on the X platform that vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz increased today as it continues to support freedom of navigation. The command added that 55 vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz, carrying more than 17 million barrels of oil to global markets, emphasizing that its forces remain poised to ensure compliance with all aspects of the agreement with Iran.
