Twenty-four people died and 272 were injured in violence that erupted Sunday during a Coptic protest outside the state TV building, the Health Ministry said Monday.
Eleven hospitals received 253 of the injured, while 19 others received treatment at the scene, the ministry said in a statement.
Coptic protesters organized a rally on Sunday outside the state TV building, joined by a number of political groups, to protest mounting assaults on Coptic churches following the January uprising.
In particular, protesters condemned the attack of a Coptic church in Aswan Governorate on 30 September. Local Muslim residents claimed the church was unlicensed.
