Protesters reopen main road in central Arish after receiving gasoline

Police and armed forces convinced protesting drivers to allow traffic to flow on Arish’s Geish Street on Tuesday, after providing them with fuel under security supervision.

Dozens of vehicle owners blocked the main road in Arish city using stones in protest of a shortage of gasoline and diesel oil. They parked their vehicles in front of one of the gasoline stations and hindered traffic, which led to congestion.

A recent 40 percent shortage of fuel nationwide has cost Egypt an estimated LE30 million.

Recurrent fuel shortages have led to overcrowding and fighting at gas stations, and disrupted transportation as well as many other businesses and industries.
