Inbound tourism to Egypt grew at a rate of 23% during the 2019–2024 period, propelling the Egyptian tourism sector to sixth place globally among the best-performing major tourist destinations.
This milestone was highlighted as the House of Representatives’ Tourism Committee convened to discuss the tourism sector’s targets under the economic and social development plan for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, as well as the general framework for the 2029/2030 medium-term plan.
According to MP Mohamed Farouk, a member of the committee and the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers, Egypt’s diverse attractions—ranging from beach and leisure tourism to cultural and religious tourism—grant the nation a distinct international competitive advantage, positioning the country as one of the world’s premier tourist destinations.
Farouk emphasized that the domestic boom aligns with tourism’s role as a primary driver of global economic growth and international trade.
On a global scale, the sector’s contribution to the world’s gross domestic product is estimated at approximately 10%, while it accounts for around 7% of total international trade and represents about 30% of total global service exports.
Furthermore, the industry provides nearly 50 million jobs worldwide, and when combined with its related sectors, absorbs roughly 10% of the total global workforce.
